Ghostly Labor

Ghostly Labor explores the history of labor in the US–Mexico borderlands through Tap Dance, Mexican Zapateado, Son Jarocho, Afro Caribbean movement, and live music. This work brings together polyrhythmic movement and an original score to look at the (ongoing) years of systemic exploitation of labor while highlighting the power and joy of collective resistance. The full-length dance theater production of Ghostly Labor will premiere at Brava Theater in December 2023, and will tour the US throughout 2024.

Conceived, composed, and co-directed by Molina, The Long Walk Home is a multimedia-audio documentary-concert which shares the epic true story of a Guatemalan Mayan family fleeing violence in their homeland, surviving a dangerous journey to the USA, Narco predators at the border, family separation in U.S. detention centers, their miraculous reunification, and their art of clowning. For this work in progress presentation these visual elements will be in their preliminary forms and with very limited supertitles.

RENT CHECK LIVE AT BRAVA

Rent Check is a dark comedy series written and directed by San Francisco comedian Mike Evans Jr, and co-directed with filmmaker Jules Retzlaff. Rent Check is about a young Black man going through a quarter life crisis in the year 2020. Throughout the 12 episodes, the show follows Mike on his quest to find his life’s purpose while receiving guidance from an ethereal presence. The cast features up and coming rappers, singers, artists, comedians, and even talking animals from across the Bay Area.

The action takes place aboard the world’s oldest lesbian cruise ship, The Celesbian. Marga transforms herself from Pru Perez, the ships' meek bingo caller, to Isabella a disgraced Lacrosse player yearning for her first lesbian affair, to their fearless leader, Captain Admiral, who is always ready to go down in the ship and enough lesbian characters in 60 minutes to break a comedy world record. El Güegüense XI

The talented Chavalos Danzas troupe will bring to life El Güegüense, a theatrical play full of satire that dates back to the colonial-era in Meso America. It is the most distinctive theatrical performance from Nicaragua that combines folklore music, dance, and theater. The name derives from 'huehue' which means wise old man in the native language 'nault'. El Güegüense is the highest expression of Nicaraguan folklore, it was proclaimed by Unesco as a 'Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity'.

American Homeboy Screening

American Homeboy explores the complex origins of pachuco and cholo culture which sprouted from American soil more than 100 years ago in response to wartime sentiment, social alienation, and government discrimination only to become a pop culture phenomenon. The film draws from rare interviews shot on 5K with leading Mexican American historians, academics, artists, activists, cholos, and former law enforcement officers against a backdrop of restored archival footage.
