Mission Rebel No.1 is a newly commissioned multi-media project created by San Francisco’s highly acclaimed musician David James (Afrofunk Experience, Michael Franti, The Coup). Inspired by a youth empowerment organization led by his late father, the Rev. Jesse James, Mission Rebel No.1 is a musical exploration into “The Rev’s” complicated life and turbulent times.

David James uses instrumentation and voice to breathe life into found footage, audio clips, photographs, and newsprint about “a groovy rebellion” of Black and Latino youth seeking a better life in the Mission District of the 1960’s-70’s.
