Indómitas is a live monthly podcast series hosted by Chelis López of KPOO and Radio Bilingüe, featuring untamable voices of fierce women artists and activists. For the October 2022 podcast, Indómitas will interview producer, songwriter, and director of the record label El Cerrito Records, Kenya Autie.

Indómitas will take place live at Brava’s Cabaret on Wednesday, Oct 5 at 7pm (PST).

ABOUT KENYA AUTIE

Kenya Autie es productora, compositora, y directora del sello discográfico El Cerrito Records, del cual es co- propietaria. Se dedica a producir, grabar, mezclar y masterizar entre 15 y 20 proyectos cada año. Colabora con otros estudios de grabaciones en diferentes partes de los Estados Unidos y en el mundo.

Es ganadora de un premio GRAMMY y ganadora de cuatro GRAMMYs Latinos. Es una líder de la comunidad musical en el Área de la Bahía de San Francisco, defensora de los derechos de los músicos, las minorías, y en especial de las mujeres.

Estudió guitarra en el Conservatorio Guillermo Tomás de Guanabacoa, La Habana, Cuba, y fue la primera mujer en tocar la guitarra eléctrica en una banda de rock, cuando surgieron los primeros grupos de música rock original en Cuba en los años 90.  A lo largo de su carrera ha producido más de 40 álbumes de diferentes géneros, incluyendo: Música Clásica, Infantil, Rock, Poesía, Rock Latino, Jazz, Instrumental, Tradicional Cubana, Folclórica Cubana, Tango, y Flamenco. 

En el 2019, fué mencionada en la revista Billboard junto a otras mujeres productoras, algunas muy reconocidas en la industria de la música como: Beyoncé, Brandi Carlile, and Linda Perry. En el 2020, cuando comenzó la pandemia, junto con otros dos escritores y productores, crearon y produjeron la canción "All in This Together" (Estamos todos juntos) y un video para acompañar la canción. Todos los ingresos recibidos por este video/canción fueron donados al Fondo de Ayuda COVID-19 de la Academia de la Grabación MusiCares, un beneficio para los músicos que estaban necesitados durante la pandemia. En el 2022, fue invitada al Primer Encuentro de Productores e Ingenieros en Cuba, auspiciado por el Departamento de Cultura, El Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), y La Empresa de Grabaciones y Ediciones Musicales (EGREM), donde participó como panelista destacando la importancia de visibilizar el rol de la mujer productora en la industria de la música. KENYA tiene innumerables reconocimientos que ha ganado como productora en los GRAMMYs y GRAMMYs Latinos.

Kenya Autie is a producer, songwriter, and director of the record label El Cerrito Records, that she co-owns. She is dedicated to producing, recording, mixing and mastering between 15 and 20 projects each year. She also collaborates with other recording studios in different parts of the United States and around the world.

She is a GRAMMY Award winner and winner of four Latin GRAMMYs. She is a leader in the music community in the San Francisco Bay Area, an advocate for the rights of musicians, minorities, and especially women.

She studied guitar at the Guillermo Tomás de Guanabacoa Conservatory in Havana, Cuba, and was the first woman to play the electric guitar in a rock band when the first original rock music groups emerged in Cuba in the 90s. Throughout her career she has produced more than 40 albums of different genres, including: Classical Music, Children's, Rock, Poetry, Latin Rock, Jazz, Instrumental, Traditional Cuban, Cuban Folk, Tango, and Flamenco.

In 2019, she was mentioned in Billboard magazine along with other female producers, some well known in the music industry such as: Beyoncé, Brandi Carlile, and Linda Perry. In 2020, when the pandemic started she, along with two other writers and producers, created and produced the song "All in This Together" and an accompanying video. All proceeds received from this video/song were donated to the MusiCares Recording Academy COVID-19 Relief Fund, a benefit for musicians who were in need during the pandemic. In 2022, she was invited to the First Meeting of Producers and Engineers in Cuba, sponsored by the Department of Culture, the Higher Institute of Art (ISA), and the Recording Company and Ediciones Musicales (EGREM), where she participated as a panelist, highlighting the importance of making visible the role of women producers in the music industry. KENYA has received many awards that she has earned as a producer at the GRAMMYs and Latin GRAMMYs.

Each month in Brava’s Cabaret, Indómitas will interview female singers, writers, poets, activists, artists, journalists, filmmakers, and others – some well-known and some deserving to be – for live broadcast. These 60-minute conversations will cover the women’s stories of achievement, pitfalls, and hopes for their futures. 

Be ready for open and honest conversations, where intimacy fosters the sharing of joy, fear, acceptance, and ultimately, the strength of women. It’s our time to be the ones who narrate our stories of who we are, what we do, what matters to us and how we organized and stand up for our rights.
