HONORING THE WOMEN OF JAROCHO
Caña Dulce y Caña Brava from Veracruz, Mexico, Entre Mujeres from Los Angeles, and the Bay Area’s own DiaPa’Son.
Explore the folkloric music style of Veracruz during a week-long festival of live music, community fandango, workshops with master artists, and youth activities when Brava presents the 6th Annual San Francisco Son Jarocho Festival.
All Festival events take place at Brava Theater Center, with the exception of the Tuesday, January 30 workshop which will happen at SoleSpace in Oakland.

Friday, Feb 2
Fandango de La Candelaria
7pm - 11pm
Join us for the cultural convening ritual known as Fandango de La Candelaria, a late-night session of instruments, dancing, voices and verse.
Bring your instruments and your dancing shoes! This is a FREE community event for all to enjoy.
Saturday, Feb 3
Live Concert

Celebrate the women of Jarocho with a live concert featuring the first ever Bay Area appearance of Caña Dulce y Caña Brava from Veracruz, Mexico, the amazing Entre Mujeres out of Los Angeles led by Chicana Artivista and Quetzal front woman Martha Gonzalez, and the Bay Area’s own DiaPa’Son.
*$75 – Premium orchestra seating + reception with artists
Join us before the performance for a reception with the artists. The event features a mezcal tasting, light hors d'oeuvres, live music, and a chance to mingle with the artists.
$40 – Reserved seating in the orchestra; $35 for seniors and students
$25 – Reserved seating in the mezzanine; $20 for seniors and students

This family friendly event features a live concert followed by a demonstration with master artists that will showcase the instruments and techniques used in Son Jarocho.

Master Workshops
A) 7pm – 8pm: Zapateado with Master artist Violeta Romero
B) 8:10pm – 9:10pm: Jarana with Master artists Raquel Palacios Vega and Anna S. Arismendez.
Workshops are open to all skill levels. This workshop series will take place at SoleSpace in Oakland (Telegraph location) and is FREE to the public.
