A work in progress by Marga Gomez
Fri & Sat, April 1-2, 8pm
Sun April 3, 3pm matinee w/ talkback
Marga revisits the triumphs and demons of her father Willy Chevalier: comedian, producer, songwriter, Cafe El Pico spokesperson, and a prominent figure in the golden era of New York’s Latino culture. His influence spurred Marga on her journey as a queer Latina performing artist with all it's ups and downs. It's a loving story of perseverance and creative addiction passed down from immigrant father to lesbian daughter and entertainment without borders and limits. Latin Standards will be Marga’s twelfth solo show.
Marga is the writer/performer of eleven more solo plays which have been presented in the Bay Area, Off-Broadway, nationally and internationally. HuffPost named her a 2015 “Agent of Change.” The SF Weekly named Marga one of “2016’s Artists To Watch.” She teaches solo performance online and at Brava Theater where she is a tenured artist in residence. As a stand up comedian she has appeared on LOGO’s “One Night Stand Up,” Showtime's "Latino Laugh Festival,” Comedy Central’s “Out There" and HBO’s “Comic Relief” at the invitation of Robin Williams.
