Stories That Change Us

Immigrant Storytelling Showcase
December 7, 2024
4-6pm

Brava Studio Theater

With You Productions and Brava for Women in the Arts announce "Stories That Change Us," a transformative storytelling workshop series designed to amplify immigrant voices and counter harmful narratives through the power of personal storytelling. Facilitated by Kat Evasco, this free three-session workshop culminates in a public performance at the Brava Theater Center on December 7, 2024.
In response to increasing anti-immigrant rhetoric in the current election cycle, "Stories That Change Us" empowers participants to reclaim their narratives and contribute to a more nuanced public discourse on immigration. Through intensive writing and performance training, participants will develop powerful 2-3 minute personal narratives that bridge the personal and political.

"Now is the time for immigrant communities and advocates to take control of the narratives and elevate the conversation towards humanity," says Evasco, whose extensive work in theater and cultural strategy has been recognized by the AAPI Fund, California Arts Council, and the Gerbode Foundation.

- Culminating Performance: December 7, 2024, 4:00-6:00 PM PT

- Venue: Brava Theater Center, Studio Space

Evasco brings significant expertise to this initiative. As founder of With You Productions and former Sr. Program Director at the Center for Cultural Power, she has directed and produced numerous successful solo shows, including works by Yosimar Reyes and Cesar Cadabes. Her own work has been featured in major media outlets including Deadline, IndieWire, Vice, and NBC News Asian America.

This workshop series is made possible through the support of the California Arts Council.
