Using a diverse cast of singers, actors, poets, and performers, I, Too, Sing America honors and weaves the perspectives and experiences of American BIPOC artists with poetry, song, music and movement, featuring original compositions by Othello Jefferson.
With a company of twenty-five dancers and singers, “I, Too, Sing America” highlights the poetic works “We Real Cool” by Gwendolyn Brooks, “Accents” by Denise Froham, “Once Barbie Chang Worked” by Victoria Chang, “I, Too” by Langston Hughes, and more. The performances are under the musical direction of Othello Jefferson with direction by Jamie Yuen-Shore and choreography by Christine Chung.

San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Company (SFBATCO), a Black, Latine, & Asian led non-profit organization, produces compelling theatre that builds community, fosters cross-cultural dialogue, promotes social justice, and authentically reflects the experiences of communities of color and LGBTQIA+ people. Our theatrical productions address social justice issues from an intersectional perspective and present affirmative non-stereotypical representations of individuals and communities who are feared or ostracized for their gender, race, religion, sexual preference, socio-economic or immigration status.
