March’s Paseo Artístico celebrates Women’s History Month by honoring women of the Mission: Jennie Rodriguez, Executive Director of Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts who recently stepped down after 25 years; activist and philanthropist Olga Talamante; and local muralists Lucia Gonzales Ippolito, Irene Perez, and Susan Cervantes, along with many more.
The free bilingual community art stroll, presented by Accion Latina and a coalition of 24th Street/Calle 24 cultural venues, will feature outdoor music, dance, poetry, foods and crafts, at various venues along 24th Street in San Francisco’s Mission District.
Performers include: Chicana singer songwriter Liliana Herrera, Colombian dancer Andreina Maldonado, award winning Brazilian samba drum and dance company Fogo Na Roupa, traditional Puerto Rican music from Taller Bombalele, Salvadoran American writer Olivia Peña, queer performer Princeso, poet Josiah Luis Alderete, the San Francisco Unified School District Mariachi Program and the Mission District Young Musicians Program of the Community Music Center.
Featured muralists include Lucia Gonzales Ippolito, Susan Cervantes of Precita Eyes, Irene Perez of Mujeres Muralistas, Flavia Mora, Monica Navarro, and Dr. Susie Lundy.
