For the September 2025 podcast, Indómitas will interview María Sanchez, a brave and resilient woman whose life has been marked by strength, love, and commitment to her community

María Sanchez
María Sanchez, nació en Puebla, México, es una mujer valiente y resiliente cuya vida ha estado marcada por la fortaleza, el amor y el compromiso con su comunidad. Criada por sus abuelos en un hogar humilde, aprendió desde pequeña a valorar lo esencial, a disfrutar la vida y a cultivar la solidaridad y el respeto hacia los demás. Su carácter alegre, su liderazgo natural y su capacidad de alzar la voz ante las injusticias la distinguieron desde niña.
No había cumplido los 20 años cuando llegó a Estados Unidos, enfrentando los retos de ser madre soltera a los 23 y de trabajar en empleos exigentes mientras construía un futuro para su hijo. Su experiencia como migrante fortaleció su resiliencia y le permitió descubrir su poder como mujer. Con el apoyo de su tía, se estableció en California, donde encontró oportunidades para estudiar, involucrarse en la educación de su hijo y comenzar su vocación como promotora comunitaria.
Como promotora, María ha dedicado su vida a acompañar y empoderar a su comunidad. Apoyo durante la campaña de vacunación contra el COVID-19, ha trabajado incansablemente para mejorar la salud y el bienestar de las familias en San Francisco. Actualmente colabora en Mission Neighborhood Health Center.
La historia de María es un testimonio de coraje, superación y entrega: de una infancia sencilla en un pequeño pueblo mexicano a convertirse en una mujer migrante, madre, líder y promotora comprometida con transformar la vida de quienes la rodean.

María Sanchez, born in Puebla, Mexico, is a brave and resilient woman whose life has been marked by strength, love, and commitment to her community. Raised by her grandparents in a humble home, she learned from a young age to value the essentials, enjoy life, and cultivate solidarity and respect for others. Her cheerful nature, natural leadership, and ability to speak out against injustice distinguished her from a young age.
She was not yet 20 when she arrived in the United States, facing the challenges of being a single mother at 23 and working in demanding jobs while building a future for her son. Her experience as a migrant strengthened her resilience and allowed her to discover her power as a woman. With the support of her aunt, she settled in California, where she found opportunities to study, become involved in her son's education, and begin her vocation as a community worker.
As a community worker, María has dedicated her life to supporting and empowering her community. Supporting the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, she has worked tirelessly to improve the health and well-being of families in San Francisco. She currently works at Mission Neighborhood Health Center.
Maria's story is a testament to courage, overcoming difficulties, and dedication: from a simple childhood in a small Mexican town to becoming a migrant woman, mother, leader, and advocate committed to transforming the lives of those around her.
