San Francisco Contemporary Music Players Present - ARTZenter Institute Emerging Composer Concert

ARTZenter Institute is a grant program in partnership with the San Francisco Contemporary Music Players, encouraging the creation of new music that explores the power and grace of the traditional orchestral ensemble. The fund was created by Tony Magee, founder of The Lagunitas Brewing Company of Petaluma, CA, and is committed to creating chamber orchestra workshops, mentorship and performance opportunities for young composers nationwide. The Emerging Composer Completion Grant Program has grown into one of the nation’s largest and most ambitious vehicles in support of new work, with multiple calls-for-scores being announced annually.
On Septeber 8, 2026 at 7:30 PM, ARTZenter will present a free concert at the Brava Theater featuring the winning composers from the fund's January 2026 round of grants from.
We will present world premiere performances of 4 new compositions for sinfonietta:
Ella Kaale - "Flotsam" (2026)
Matthew Lam - "Witchcraft II" (2026)
James Larkins - "1000 Self Portraits" (2026)
Xingyue Song - "Crosshair Offset" (2026)
About ARTZenter Institute
ARTZenter Institute’s emerging Composer Grant Program was established to encourage the creation of new music by emerging composers that explores the power and grace of the traditional orchestral ensemble. The fund was created by Tony Magee, the founder of The Lagunitas Brewing Company of Petaluma, CA, and is committed to creating orchestra-scale performance opportunities for the works of emerging composers. ARTZenter will award upwards of 24 individual grants for new compositions annually. Through the creation of a new catalog of these works, ARTZenter hopes to bring these new voices to orchestral performance nationally, while exposing performers and their leadership to the newest creative insights and never-before-experienced musical approaches.
