Get ready for an unforgettable night as Acción Latina proudly presents the 44th Annual Encuentro del Canto Popular! Join us at Brava Theater on 24th Street December 6, 20205 for a spectacular evening of music and culture to raise funds for Acción Latina and El Tecolote Newspaper.

This year’s headliner is the international sensation, Grammy Award-winning Cuban-Canadian singer-songwriter and composer ALEX CUBA. Sharing the stage with three fantastic musical acts including Warango (AfroPeru), Diabbla (Chicana rap) and DJ Lizzy al Toque (Chulita Vinyl Club).

Don’t miss this evening of Latin Soul, Afro Peruvian roots music, Hip-Hop en Español and classic dance grooves.

Alex Cuba is a Cuban-Canadian singer-songwriter who sings in Spanish and English. He has won two Juno Awards for World Music Album of the Year: in 2006 for Humo de Tabaco, and in 2008 for his second album, Agua del Pozo. In 2010 he won the Latin Grammy for Best New Artist. His 2015 album, Healer, earned him a Latin Grammy Award for Best Singer-Songwriter Album and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Latin Pop Album.

His 2021 album Mendó won the 2022 Grammy for Best Latin Pop Album. Warango from Oakland, California, is based in Afro-Peruvian musical roots and anchored in the strong presence of Afro-Peruvian percussion led by Pierr Padilla (Peru), musician and dancer, and composed of Javier Trujillo (Peru) on guitar, Kyla Danysh (USA) on violin, Pedro Rosales (Peru) on percussion and Alex Farrell (USA) on bass guitar & double bass.

Andrea Cruz aka Diabla is a Mexican-American artist based in San Francisco. Diabbla’s unique style blends rap with R&B, jazz and boom bap to uplift women and amplify their voices.

Acción Latina is a nonprofit organization founded in 1987 whose mission is to promote cultural arts, community media and civic engagement as a way of building healthy and empowered Latino communities.
