Keali’i Reichel featuring Na Lei Hulu i ka Wekiu

Join us for a special event with acclaimed singer and Kumu Hula, Keali'i Reichel, as he shares his artistry with audiences in an intimate performance.

Keali'i Reichel is one of Hawai`i’s most popular Hawaiian singers, songwriters, and Kumu Hula. Keali'i has performed at venues around the world including New York's Carnegie Hall and the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. Heʻs opened for main-stream artists including, Celine Dion, Sting, Bonnie Raitt and LeAnne Rimes. He consistently sells out concerts from Honoka'a to Hanalei, Los Angeles to New York, and Tokyo to Okinawa. He has become a cultural force promoting Hawaiian language and culture to a large global audience. In 1994 he independently produced and released a collection of Hawaiian traditional and contemporary songs and chants entitled "Kawaipunahele" (RIAA Gold Record). His subsequent music releases, "Lei Hali`a" (1995), "E O Mai" (1997), "Melelana" (1999), "Ke'alaokamaile" (2003), “Kamahiwa” (2005), “Maluhia” (2006), and “Kamalei” (2008) have cemented his place in the Hawaiian music industry. His work to date has been awarded 37 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards, and his consistent placement in Billboard Magazine's World Music and Heatseeker Charts has garnered him international attention. Keali'i retains his initial goal of presenting new compositions in the Hawaiian language for hula students, and works to dispel long‐held stereotypes of Hawai'i's living culture and her indigenous people. Joining Keali'i will be Kumu Hula Patrick Makuakane and his halau, Na Lei Hulu i ka Wekiu. While grounded in the traditions and fundamentals of hula, Makuakane’s artistry brings this dynamic dance form to a new level and creates exciting dimensions for the audience to enjoy. Their performances are a vibrant reminder of how tradition and innovation can coexist in meaningful and surprising ways.
