In Judy Juanita's new satire on Blackademia, Layla a Black academic on her way to a conference meets Diahlo, the forgotten founder of Black Studies. They spar rw/ reservation agents in a deserted airport, and various professors as they debate the relevancy and politic of Diahlo, the Academy, Black Studies and their positions in the struggle.
Judy Juanita was born in Berkeley, raised in Oakland and became Editor-in-Chief of the Black Panther Party Newspaper, before becoming the youngest faculty member of the nation's first Black Studies program at San Francisco State University. She has written 17 plays and a novel, Virgin Soul (Viking, 2013)
