Expressing Motherhood

Thursday, October 15, 7:30pm

In its 8th season, Expressing Motherhood is the hit, ongoing stage show that has been showcasing people sharing their stories about motherhood onstage since 2008.  It was created in Los Angeles by two SAHM, Lindsay Kavet and Jessica Cribbs. The women took it to New York City in 2009, just one year after it’s conception and it performed to sold out audiences off-off Broadway.

The show was built for the non-famous and non-published, the person dying to get out and express themselves. The first person cast was a gay father.  People submit their stories and director Lindsay chooses the stories based on the power of their stories. No auditions. After editing some of the stories for the stage there are two rehearsals and then showtime. The cast consists of around 10 people, each time the cast changes.  The communal, unique vibe of the show has struck a chord with moms and theater goers of all types. The show is in its 8th season. Around 8,000 seats have been filled to see the show, 200 people have performed in it and countless spirits filled because of it.

Lindsay’s mom and in-laws fly in to help with their kids and to sell wine/tickets at the show. This show has been very homespun since it’s beginning. The creators originate from the mid-west and have built a large community here in Los Angeles and across the nation.

The show is also on Spotify & watched at homes across the country via their DVDs and streamed shows. Watch an entire show online here. You can also listen to Expressing Motherhood on its new Podcast. Watch our videos on YouTube and Vimeo.
