A man’s thoughts go berserk! Sassy flowers travel the internet! Good and evil fairy armies battle for control of 24th Street!
StageWrite, San Francisco’s literacy through theatre program for kids, presents Short Plays by Short People, six original 15-minute plays by fifth grade students from Starr King Elementary School. The plays will be performed by professional actors and musicians.
Each budding playwright selected a masterpiece from the Legion of Honor museum for inspiration, including Rodin’s “The Thinker” and Monet’s “Water Lilies.” Songs written by the student playwrights will performed by local band the Write-Ons at the performances. In addition, local filmmaker Leslie Valentino collaborated with the young playwrights on a one-minute biographical Claymation film to screen before each play.
Following the performance on Friday, May 9, guests are invited to join the artists for a wine reception and a silent auction featuring gift certificates to local restaurants, museums, theaters, and retailers. All auction proceeds benefit StageWrite and its education programs.
