Born in Oaxaca, Mexico, in 1989, Daniela studied at the School of Fine Arts Oaxaca, pursuing a degree in Visual Arts Instruction. While attending university, Daniela discovered graphic design and in particular, engraving in relief. During her second year at the School of Fine Arts, Daniela began to simultaneously pursue a Bachelor's degree in Plastic and Visual Arts, and later went on to become an exchange student at the Faculty of Art and Design of the Autonomous University of Mexico in Mexico City.

Daniela’s artistry draws inspiration from textures, leaves, hummingbirds, and imaginary beings, seeking to highlight the importance of nature in the human life. Her designs reveal her admiration for the astonishing behaviors, designs, colors and functions of nature. Her process begins with engraving, wherein she develops her ideas, sometimes making color mixtures, and in others, solving problems through the use of black and white.

Daniela is the founder of the Hoja Santa project, a workshop focused on the dissemination, exhibition and production of graphic work of women located in the city of Oaxaca. Hoja Santa has been of great importance to Daniela’s personal and professional growth, allowing her to expand the network of recorders nationwide, generating exhibitions both in Oaxaca as well as other cities in Mexico. Currently, the Hoja Santa project consists of four active members.

ABOUT INDÓMITAS

Chelis Lopez.jpg

Indómitas is a live podcast series hosted by Chelis López of KPOO and Radio Bilingüe, featuring interviews with fierce women artists and activists

Each month in Brava’s Cabaret,* Indómitas will interview female singers, writers, poets, activists, artists, journalists, filmmakers, and others – some well-known and some deserving to be – for live broadcast. These 60-minute conversations will cover the women’s stories of achievement, pitfalls, and hopes for their futures.

Be ready for open and honest conversations, where intimacy fosters the sharing of joy, fear, acceptance, and ultimately, the strength of women. It’s our time to be the ones who narrate our stories of who we are, what we do, what matters to us and how we organized and stand up for our rights.

*This event is currently online only, and will return to an in-person event once it is safe to do so.
