YOUTH TheatER Integrating Drama, Movement and Music


Led by Marcelo J. Pereira, Creative Director of Bay Area Theatre Company (BATCO), Young Thespians Theater Lab offers high quality performing instruction integrating drama, movement, and music, as well as best practices for auditions, covering everything from etiquette to how to pick materials. Fall skill-building classes culminate in a spring performance of a full-length production on Brava's Main Stage.

FALL SEMESTER: September 10 – December 19, 2018

Put Your Best Foot Forward: Auditions
Instructor: Marcelo Javier Pereira
Time: Mondays, 4:30-6:00pm

This class is for students who are interested in learning how to best present themselves in an audition, covering everything from etiquette to how to pick material. Aligned with the BATCO Mentor Series, students are guaranteed to work with touring Broadway professionals and get their special insight on what life is like as a working actor. Each student will walk away with audition ready materials for singing and acting, a headshot and resume, and the confidence to nail an audition!

Tuition: $400 / 14 week course (No one turned away for lack of funds.)

Script Analysis & Character Development
Instructor: Claudio Silva Restrepo
Time: Thursdays, 4:30-6:00pm

The purpose of this class is to supply actors and directors the necessary tools to vividly and truly play the story they aim to share. The course will include two written assignments, a critical essay of a play read in class or seen as part of the course curriculum, and three viewings of live performances. By the end of the course, students shall have a thorough proposal of the play that includes ideas for all production elements. This course is designed to be followed by a production course that culminates in a fully mounted student production during the following spring semester.

Tuition: $25 per session

*The Mentor Series can be attended independently of Young Thespians Theater Lab.
